May be a danger sign: I don't want to alarm you, but severe upper back pain in early pregnancy can be a symptom of an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. Other symptoms may include vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, or shoulder pain. A pregnacy in the tube is a problem because the tube can't stretch like the uterus can. The tube may break and bleed. Call your doctor - or the on-call doctor - and talk this over now. Good luck.
