See a doctor: May be hemorrhoids, however, see an md to get a medical work up asap. A colonoscopy probably will be recommended. Good luck.

Concern: My concern is that your partner may have in diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease (crohns disease or ulcerative colitis) or a colorectal tumor. Both could cause the symptoms you describe. A colonoscopy is warranted along with an evaluation with a gastroenterologist and surgeon.
