A member asked:

What is the current treatment for moderate to severe acne for a 16-yr old male?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Start simple: A lot depends on what the acne looks like, whether it's deep seated or more "comodonal" or surface in nature. Generally we start with a retinoid (retin-a), and may concurrently use an antibiotic like Minocycline for a month if the acne looks cystic. There are a number of different medicines that can be used either in place of, or in addition to, the retinoid depending on how the acne responds.
