Irritant reaction: A true ige mediated allergy to chlorine is not reported; however, chlorine is a potent irritant and in high concentrations causes irritation to the eyes, nose, lungs and skin. A very large accidental inhalation of chlorine gas could damage the lungs and cause symptoms like acute asthma. There is no blood or skin test to confirm sensitivity to chlorine. As a potent irritant, try to limit exposure.
