Nonspecific : Erythema itself on colonoscopy is nonspecific. The biopsies should help detrmine if it is crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, nonspecific inflammation, or nothing. Nonspecific inflammation can be seen with infections, or with NSAID (ibuprofen, etc.) use.

Inflammation: Erythema is a term used to describe redness that was probably noticed on endoscopy. Erythema usually is non specific and can mean anything from mild irritation during the procedure to something abnormal like infection or an inflammation. Biopsies and pathology is more accurate in identifying the exact problem. Ileitis is swelling of the small bowel and again erythema does not always mean ileitis.
