IBS?: What you are describing could be irritable bowel syndrome, which can be either constipation-dominant or diarrhea-dominant. In ibs, the bowel is irritated for unknown reasons, causing pain and problems stooling. This can involve chronic constipation or (most commonly) chronic diarrhea. Any sudden change in bowel habits warrants a trip to the doc to have it investigated.

Change in bowels: This change in your bowel habits, going from too few bm to too frequent movements, can have several possible causes; enteritis, colitis, flu illness, bacterial infections. If you have fever, or symptoms persist okay to get evaluated with your doc. Your hiatal hernia is not likely to be causative.

Not hiatal hernia: Your bowel movements are not likely to be related to your hiatal hernia. It seems like you have two different things. See a GI doctor to get a proper work up.
