See below: Urinary tract infection, kidney stones, sometimes cancers. Any inflammation of the lining of urethra, bladder could do that.

Urinary infection: By far most common cause. Simple urinalysis will rule UTI in or out. Other less common causes can be considered as soon as UTI is ruled out.
