Delayed or decayed ?: Can't tell over the internet, sight unseen, without a radiograph, whether or not you need root canal therapy. But your local dentist can. Make an appointment and have him/her explain your options for care. All the best..

Maybe: Root canal treatment is done when a tooth is infected or if the nerve is irreversibly inflamed. If you have a strong, constant dull ache or pain to cold that lingers for several minutes, then you likely need root canal treatment. If your tooth is only sensitive when you eat something sweet or if you have cold pain for a few seconds, you may only need a filling. Have your dentist check it for you.

Depends: Not all the decayed tooth need root canal therapy. However, your dentist can tell based on the radiograph and/or pending excavation.
