Not inherited: Merkel cell carcinoma, a neuroendocrine tumor of the skin, is not inherited. The majority of these tumors in fact seem to be associated with a virus (merkel cell polyomavirus).

PROBABLY NOT: There is no data suggesting the mcc runs in families. Actually, if there were multiple members of a single family with the disease, it would be reportable. It is a very rare cancer, occurring in the epidermis in sun-exposed areas of the body.
