Period onset: If you are not on oral birth control. your period may be early or late depending on when you ovulate. Ovulation can be influenced by stress of any kind, leading to early onset or delays of your period. If you are "regular" ( every 28-34 days) and it has not started in another 7-10 days, if pregnancy is possible, get a serum HCG test from your healthcare provider to be certain .
