Evaluate pretnancy: The first ultrasound in pregnancy is usually very early in pregnancy - about 7-8 weeks. Your doctor should be able to see the growing fetus in the uterus along with the fetal heart beat. Early in pregnancy, an ultrasound is needed to see the heart beat since the fetus is too small to hear the heart beat as done in later visits.
