Viral or allergic: An enlarged uvula could be angioedema, and can be treated with a few days of antihistamines like zyrtec (cetirizine). That is usually not painful, though. If your uvula is painful, you could have a sore throat or cold sores that are just located at the soft palate area. Motrin, chloraseptic, and other support measures may help viral symptoms.
