Can aortic valve disease be treated through a catheter?

No.: Severe aortic valve regurgitation can not. Aortic valve stenosis (tightening) does not respond well to balloon dilatation and patients don't do well with that procedure. However, there are now certain patient populations (those who are not considered to be good surgical candidates), who may be considered for percutaneous valve replacement, but this procedure is investigational at this point.

Depends on pts age: For critical aortic stenosis in elderley pts and who are high risk for surgery to replace valve, there is a procedure called transcutaneous aortic valve replacement (tavr).
