Contact: Contact with urine causes the rash. Change diapers often especially after urinating. If possible let it air dry since moisture encourages the rash.

Diaper: Diaper rash or diaper dermatitis is treated in elderly patients same as the babies. It is caused by the friction and moisture associated with wearing diapers. Ideally, the first-line therapy for individuals with diaper dermatitis is zinc oxide ointment or various products containing zinc oxide and more frequent changing of the diapers. However a dermatologist may use other type of treatments based on other factors involved such as extent of the condition, infection etc. It may need prescriptions if there is a fungus.
