Perhaps: Fractures of the humerus can be treated with or without surgery. Indication for surgery is usually significant displacement of the fracture that could lead to a poor functional outcome. Plating can offer improved healing but obviously carries the risks associated with surgery, including potential nerve injury.

Fracture Management: Humeral shaft fractures can be treated by non operative methods. If the fracture is in reasonable alignment you can be treated with a fracture brace and begin moving your arm quickly and through a normal range of motion as your pain subsides. Surgery offers no advantage to healing and may slow down the healing process. Surgery is effective in maintaining alignment while bone heals.
