Probably normal: Most often, this "extra" beat is a early beat from the bottom heart chambers (premature ventricular complex- pvc). These can more often be noticed when it is quiet (like bedtime). Definitive diagnosis is made with a holter monitor, or an event monitor. An echocardiogram can be considered to ensure there is no abnormal heart structure. Abnormal thyroid function can also be a cause.
