A steroid medication: Prednisolone is a form of medication know as a steroid--the active metabolite of prednisone. Used similarly, both medications are useful in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis or asthma. In certain medical situations Prednisolone may be better absorbed than prednisone.
