Mold is ubquitous: Mold is also known as fungus or in some cases yeast. Fungal spores are very small and tend to be found in compost, barns/farms, hay, grass and damp basements. Some fungal spores are more likely to be associated with "dry" v. "wet" environments. When inhaled, mold spores can lead to many disorders including asthma, allergic rhinitis, hypersensitivty pneumonitis, and allergic fungal sinusitis.

Mold allergy?: The issue we worry about mold is mold allergy; otherwise mold came to the world years before we humans appeared; we can coexist. We find mold everywhere, on trees, on grasses and on dirt. There is nothing to be worried about the presence of mold except for reaction to mold, allergic or toxic reactions. Patients with asthma could be allergic to mold and may start wheezing on exposure.
