Meant to be?: Maybe it was not e. Coli at all! generally e. Coli infn, in my experience does not need bladder wash out (dont know what you actually underwent, nor your baseline or your symptoms) but antibiotics. Did you talk to a doctor or a urologist?

Unusual treatment: Bacteria only get trapped in bladder if they are embedded in bladder stones, there is a narrow neck bladder diverticulum or you had bladder enlargement surgery resulting in xs mucus production within bladder so bacteria can hide & multiply. Bladder symptoms r cured by eliminating infection with antibiotics, or meds or procedure to facilitate bladder emptying. ? Get 2nd opinion. C a good urologist.

Unlikely: What was going on. Unless there is something in your bladder like a stone, e coli dont get trapped. A urogyn or urologist might help.
