No: The colon mostly absorbs water from the oral contents. Removing the small bowel causes weight loss. Having a short segment of colon will not prevent obesity. Gallbladder disease is unrelated to colectomy.

Not likely: There is certainly a difference in terms of which portion is left over after the rest is removed (right versus left colon). I am not familiar with a correlation between removal of majority of the colon and weight gain or gallstone formation. Ask the surgeon that is going to remove the colon if they are familiar with these events.
