Hard to say --->: Sorry but your question implies you are having persistent symptoms(?Cough chest discomfort ?). That made you think of asthma (?Family member has it or?) a typical URI needs to run its course..Hot fluids , rest chicken soup etc.But if it is lingering, or you are having other symptoms , you should see your dr. Sometimes an URI can cause asthma like symptoms requiring specific medicines. Good luck.

Sinus infection: Most viral respiratory infections will resolve spontaneously after 7=10 days. Persistent cold like symptoms is suggestive of sinus infection. Frequently with sinus infections there is associated cough. Sinusitis will sometimes also resolve spontaneously or respond to antibiotics.
