Anytime: Per research, you should quit smoking as soon as you can, whenever you can.. And you can prevent further decline in lung functions, even though you will not get your normal lungs back.

Now: Obviously you should quit smoking as soon as possible; however, i would recommend taking a vacation from work and do it during that time. You need to get away from all of life's pressures for awhile so that you can really concentrate on stopping this bad habit. I did a 5 day detox retreat last year and quit caffeine which i was highly addicted to. Try that. I can recommend a good one.
