MR is lilely: Most down sd. Children have iq's in the 40 to 85 range, as compared to 100-105, which is the average of the general population, so if the child is in the lower iq area, he will have much more developmental and cognitive problems than if he is in the higher area, where he could be able to take care of himself an to have a productive life.

Range of intelligenc: Children with Down syndrom have a range of intelligence. Those at the higher end are usually at the low end of the average range and can be quite independent.
