Organ donation: Organ donation is the act of recovering a solid organ for the purpose of transplantation into another through pure altruism on the part of the donor.

Gifting An Organ: Organ donation requires surgical techniques that preserve the blood vessels and vital structures (e.g., ureter-kidney, bile duct - liver) and keeps the cells of the organ happy enough to function after blood flow is stopped and the transplant conducted. A living person may choose to gift an organ (or piece of an organ) through such an operation. A deceased person may gift multiple organs at 1 time.
