MDS: Myelodysplastic syndrome (mds) is a bone marrow disorder which causes low blood counts (anemia, and low white cells and platelets) and a tendendency to develop leukemia. There are several different forms of mds and many different types of treatment. Hematologists and oncologists are the doctors that specialize in treating this condition. The diagnosis is made by performing a bone marrow biopsy.
