Serum protein: Unfortunately named, this is not a precursor of Albumin but migrates on electrophoresis on the far side of albumin. Its other name "transthyretin" reflects its job of carring thyroid and vitamin a (retinoic acid). Its level gives some suggestion of a person's nutritional and overall health status.
