ART: Assisted reproductive technology (art) refers to advanced procedures aimed at assisting couples to become pregnant. This includes in vitro fertilization (ivf), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (icsi), embryo biopsy for preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening (pgd & pgs) as well as procedures rarely used these days such as gamete and zygote intrafallopian transfer (gift & zift).

Reproduction IVF: Art includes all fertility treatments in which both eggs and sperm are handled. In general, art procedures involve surgically removing eggs from a woman’s ovaries, combining them with sperm in the laboratory, and returning them to the woman’s body or donating them to another woman. They do not include IUI or ovulation induction with fertility medication without the intention of egg retrieval.
