Long-term immunity!: Hepatitis b surface antibody is an immune response to hepatitis b antigen in serum, which appears 1 to 10 weeks after exposure to hepatitis b virus. Antigen means something that makes our immune system produce an antibody to fight. In acute hepatitis b infection, the virus is the surface antigen (detected in serum) leading to production of surface antibody, to expel the virus, lasting for life.
