Migraine medication: Imitrex (sumatriptan) is a medication that belongs to the triptan catergory. These medications were specificaly formulated to treat migraine headache. They will bind to receptors on the blood vessels and brain lining and control serotonin distribution. They do not cause constriction of blood vessels as once thought. The medication comes in a pill, nasal spray and injectable formulation.

Imitrex will only treat a headache that has already begun. It will not prevent headaches.
