Cosmetic procedure: Resurfacing of the skin involves a purposeful injury to the upper layer of the skin called the epidermis. This can be accomplished most commonly using a laser or a skin drill that abrades the skin (dermabrasion). Skin resurfacing is used to correct facial defects such as acne scars, sun damaged skin and superficial pigmented spots.

See below.: Resurfacing is a procedure to remove part or all of the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) with abrasion, a laser of a chemical and then allow the skin to heal with a new smoother surface. It should only be done by an experienced physician as many possible complications can develop.
