Needle aspiration: Fine needle is introduced into a lymph node and cells are aspirated. These are usually stained & then examined under a microscope. Used to rule in or out:- presence of normal, only enlarged, lymph node tissue. Also to diagose certain malignant conditions such as lyphoma, or certain cancers. To stage cancers & see whether or not they have spread & helps to plan treatment.
