Knee arthroscopy: A lot will depend on the diagnosis and procedure that is performed. For a removal of loose body you could expect decreased episodes of locking and swelling; for a partial meniscectomy expect improved range of motion though you may have intermittent swelling; for a larger procedure such as an acl reconstruction the recovery will be prolonged with pt, crutches; ask your doc what he expects to do.

Outpatient surgery: Quick in and out surgery. Small incisions and short anesthesia time. Many different procedures can be done arthroscopically, so recovery can vary. Expect swelling and knee soreness for a few days. Most use crutches for a few days only. You will need to reduce standing and walking activities for up to 2-4 weeks post-op to reduce pain and swelling. A gentle range of motion program is helpful.
