Hormone deficiencies: Adrenal insufficiency happens when the adrenal glands do not make enough of the steroids that are necessary for managing stress and maintaining blood pressure. Low blood pressure can be the result of a failure to make the hormones necessary to regulate salt and fluid balance as well as to poor blood vessel tone. It is important for persons with adrenal insufficiency to take medicine regularly and take more medicine during times of stress.
