ETD: Eustachian tube dysfunction the natural pressure equalizing tubes in your ear are failing during descent. You can try to pop ears with gum and blowing out. Check with your primary doctor to see if you could be okay taking afrin (oxymetazoline) prior to take off/landing which will help open your nose and also your ear tubes. Also, my patient swear by a product called "earplanes". I can't recommend them though.
