Many things: Your throat and ear share some nerves. So, if your throat hurts, it can radiate to your ear. Cause for throat pain can be infectious, less likely if one side. Or it can be a foreign body, like a fish bone. Or it can be inflamed tonsil from little crypts filling it with a food particle. Have your ENT look at it.

How long lasting?: Short term throat pain felt also in the ear can be just a virus. If your pain is severe or you have pain opening your mouth or f the pain continues over 10 days, you should get checked. Any trouble breathing requires attention immediately.
