Will buttermilk help with stomach acid?

Milk: Will relieve initially but increase acid production about an hour later because of protein content. Better to use otc antacid like malox or gaviscon.

Makes it worse...: Another "old wife's tale" shot down! fats delay stomach emptying (which means stomach acid sits in your stomach longer); calcium stimulates release of gastrin (a hormone that turns up acid production). There's plenty of fat and calcium in buttermilk.
