GER: Occasional spitting up of formula in young infant is very common and generally regarded normal. When spitting-ups are frequent and cause poor weight gain or respiratory symptoms, the term gastroesophageal reflux disease, gerd, is used. Changing formula is not helpful. Thickening of formula by adding cereal and providing acid reducer to infant are often needed for gerd.
