Anxiety, arrhythmia: The best way to tell is to wear what's called a holter monitor - basically an ekg that's always attached to you so it monitors your heart all the time -- that way a physician can see exactly what you're heart is doing when these episodes happen -- it could just be a panic attack, it could be normal fast heart rhythm (sinus tachycardia) or possibly a more concerning heart rhythm.
