Retinal Edema: If your retina specialist has diagnosed you with clinically significant macular edema, which is causing or threatening your central visual acuity, then treatment is indicated and necessary to protect your vision. Edema is due to leakage from capillaries. Laser photo coagulation is common and effective treatment. Sometimes intraocular injectable medicine is used adjunctly. Treat to preserve vision.

Unlikely: Best to have your concerns discussed with your retina specialist. Having treatment in one eye may make you more aware of your vision in the opposite eye as you may temporarily be relying more on that side's vision. Also, the process that led to the challenges in the first eye can also be effecting and progressing in the second eye.
