A member asked:

Are anorexia and bulimia considered fad diets?

No: Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are very serious mental illness called: eating disorders. They're serious because untreated cases can be fatal. In fact, there is a 25% mortality rate for untreated eating disorders, which means one out of four people (mostly females)-will die from their eating disorder. These aren't "fads" and they aren't "diets.".

Diets: Fad diets are marketing ploys to promote a concept that has more to do with making money than with a well-balanced diet that promotes long-term compliance conducive with a healthy lifestyle. Anorexia and bulimia are psychiatric syndromes that are not considered fads and require specialized treatment plans.
