True true unrelated: My guess is that the nerve conduction test was to see if you had residual nerve damage from the initial problem. Surgery can relieve the pressure but the nerve damage might take up to 2 years to heal - or not heal at all. The EMG was likely to assess the extent of the problem to direct further therapy. Ask your doc why, too.
