Ease up on cleansers: The vaginal mucosa produces natural proteins that protect and maintain the moisture of the vaginal lining and walls. Soaps and cleansers will eliminate this protection, alter the bacterial flora, and may cause the lining to undergone change with subsequent irritation and redness. You may want to consider a course of estrogen cream after ceasing washes and discussing with your gynecologist.
