Biotin: Taking extra biotin, a safe vitamin supplement, has been shown to make nails thicker and stronger. Many patients report that their nails grow faster as well. You can get it inexpensively over the counter. It is worth seeing your doctor, however, as there can be issues associated with poor nail growth.

Vitamins: A nice study a decade ago showed that many people with brittle nails are biotin deficient. Treatment with an otc biotin supplement improved nail structure and growth. Additionally, there was an improvement in hair strength and growth. Infection and circulation can also affect nail growth and may need to be addressed.
