Depends: If you are on pradaxa, it is likely you have atrial fibrillation. If your heart pops in and out of this rhythm, it is called paroxysmal a fib - counterintuitively, this is actually more dangerous than constant afib. Depending on your other medical factors (diabetes, hypertension, age, heart disease, and history of stroke), the risk of future stroke may be high enough to need Pradaxa or warfarin.

Good question: Presume you had atrial fibrillation, and it can reoccur. Stroke risk is one of the major concerns. Need your doc to review all known parts of your exam and relevant history and decide re risks of stroke and risks of complications of Pradaxa which is a newer drug! ad we may not have all the data!

Depends on risk : If your risk of stroke is high ( we caliculate depending on your risk factors including age>75, htn, dm, CHF and stroke or mini stroke), if your score is more than 2, currently you need blood thinner for life time as long as your risk from blood thinner is lower than benefit.
