Reflux: The most likely cause is underlying gastroesophageal reflux causing inflammation of the esophagus and the swallowing issues. However, other causes are still possible and an examination and likely a barium esophogram or upper endoscopy would be useful to confirm/rule out other causes.

Dysphagia : The symptom you describe suggests a problem with your esophogus. Many problems cause this symptom. It could be a problem with the movement of the esophagus (dysmotility) , it could be an acquired stricture, reflux disease or it could even be a tumor. You should seek a gastroenerologist for diagnostic testing.

Esophagitis!: You have esophagitis. When you swallow, the wave of contraction hits the area of inflammation. Pain! this is clear. Otc Prilosec probably will help. If it does, the diagnosis is almost certain. Then you need your doc to help find out why!
