6-12 months: If a nerve has been 'shocked' by stretching or pulling during surgery, it can take some time for it to come back usually 6-12 months. Once you start feeling tingling or pain in the side that's numb you know it's starting to return. If you get past this time it may not come back.

Varies: Usually the numbness goes away soon. Have your doctor evaluate how and where exactly you have numbness. Consider having your doctor prescribe a dose of steroids. Numbness can take months to resolve in some cases.

Can be a while: Sorry that happened to you. Fortunately it's a rare occurrence and even more rare that it's permanent but if it happens to you, it may feel like 100%. Give 3-6 months and get rechecked. It should come back slowly but surely. After 6 months, i would consult a neurologist if you still have any lingering issues. Good luck and feel better!
