Protect them: Assuming you have heel spurs, heel inserts in your shoes may help. Think of raising your heel farther away from the floor; this is why a shoe with a higher heel may feel better than a cushioned flat.

Heel pain: Often a diagnosis of 'heel spur' is given, when the pain from a bone spur isn't painful, it's the tendons/ligaments/entheses attached. Before jumping to a diagnosis, it's prudent to rule out nerve entrapment, piriformis syndrome, venous stasis (DVT), and a detailed history and physical including listening to heart and lungs.
