Does tinnitus tend to get worse over time? if so, is there anything to avoid to not make it worse?

Depends on cause: There are many causes of tinnitus (whistling or buzzing in ears), which may or may not get worse over time. Loud noise can cause hearing damage and worsen tinnitus; avoid loud noise. If due to brain injury, Gabapentin (med) can help. If due to age related hearing loss, hearing aids help. If associated with depression, nortriptyline can help. Tinnitus retraining therapy and others can help, too.

Varies: It can vary over time. Treating it depends on knowing the cause, for which a visit with an ENT doctor would be helpful.
