What can cause water retention in the lungs? accompanied by fever ..is a 68 year male diabetic patient..pain around the ribs and chest

Concerning: Fluid retention in the lungs is called pulmonary edema and can often be the result of heart failure. Fever could mean there is also superimposed infection such as pneumonia. Given this patient's age and diabetes these symptoms are very serious and i would recommend you call his physician immediately.

Have it evaluated: A person with chest pain needs to be evaluated and treated appropriately. Multiple possible causes may be: heart attack, esophageal reflux, anxiety, musculoskeletal, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Have it evaluated right away to prevent potential serious complications.
