Muscle damage: Ck is released into the bloodstream as muscle cells die and the biproducts are sloughed into the bloodstream. Hydration is the best way to remove ck from the bloodstream, as ck must be filtered through the kidney. Rhabdomyolysis is the term used to describe severe muscle damage and ck elevation.

Depends on cause: Creatinine kinase is released from injured muscle of all kinds, skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscles, under varying circumstances. The issue would be to determine the cause of the elevation and treat the underlying pathology.
